“The original” Old School Barbell started in 2016 in a friend’s 2 car garage. At the time, our small group of friends were competing in powerlifting. The garage gym consisted of a competition bench, mono lift, a Texas deadlift bar, random dumbbells, several steel plates, some bumper plates and a few random machines we threw together. It wasn’t much, but it was home for us and my favorite place I have trained in, to this day. We were family in that gym. Our nights were spent cheering each other on and pushing our limits. Our friends would stop by, and by the end of the night, they would be setting new lifting PR’s with Pantera’s “Walk” cranked up in the background.
Fast forward to 2022. The opportunity came for Elizabeth and I to purchase a 130-year-old building on Benton’s court square. I had a vision of what the “new” Old School Barbell would look like. We went to work on the basement, completely gutting the entire thing. Starting from the ground up with all new interior walls, electric, plumbing, etc., it was all coming together. This would be a place where people could train hard and push their own limits. We wanted a place where everyone would have the same feeling of family and support that we had in that garage gym.
Elizabeth and I traveled to several locations to train on different equipment. If we did not like the way it performed, it was not going in our gym. I believe we have pieced together the best of the best equipment available today. Old School Barbell has something for every individual and athlete.
